The Octopus is the superhero among invertebrates. Not only is it the most intelligent, it can also camouflage instantly, swim fast, squeeze into impossibly small cracks, dull an attacker’s sense of vision and smell, and even re-grow any of its arms with ease.

What more, believe it or not, these eight-armed sea-dwellers also deliver venomous saliva with their nasty bites. An Octopus can take down a Shark if it wants to. How cool is that!

Here are 15 awesome facts about this incredible sea-creature that will freak you out.

15 An Octopus has three hearts, 9 brains and the color of its blood is blue.

Two of its hearts pump blood to the gills. The third circulates blood to the rest of the body. It’s blood contains a copper-rich protein ‘hemocyanin’. This is more efficient than hemoglobin for carrying oxygen at lower temperatures and oxygen concentrations.(source)

14 Known as the most intelligent among invertebrates, an Octopus once juggled it tank-mates, smashed the aquarium glass by throwing rocks and caused short circuits by shooting jets of water at a lamp.

The octopus Otto from Sea Star Aquarium in Coburg, Germany was annoyed by the bright light in his aquarium. He found out he could extinguish it by climbing onto the rim of the tank and shooting jets of water at it.

The staff decided to take shifts sleeping on the floor to find out what caused the short circuits. They soon found out the culprit.(source)

13 The mimic octopus can change into more than 15 different shapes, including snake, stingray, lionfish, and furry turkey.

The mimic octopus can morph quickly into several aquatic animals to easily adapt to its surroundings. It can change it’s to look like sea snakes, lionfish, flatfish, brittle stars, giant crabs, sea shells, stingrays, jellyfish, sea anemones, and mantis shrimp.(source)

The male can just wield it’s armss like a toxic whip. Infant females also do this. However, when they grow up, they prefer swimming away.(source)
