7 A man found Pokémon on his wife’s hospital bed while she was giving birth to their baby. 

Jonathan Theriot shared a photo on Imgur playing Pokémon Go trying to catch a Pidgey while waiting for a C-section for his wife. Amazed, he took a snapshot to show his wife who “just kind of laughed at it”. The photo soon had gone viral with over 500, 000 views since it was posted that morning. Many users had commented and congratulated them, some even suggested that they named their daughter Pidgey, after the Pokémon he found.(source)

8 Strangers are connecting and becoming real-life friends because of Pokémon Go

As the players go out to catch the Pokémon at bus stops, parks and other landmarks, they are meeting up new people. People who would have never met otherwise are becoming friends. Some are even posting pictures with the players they’ve met while searching and catching the Pokémon in that area.

A Reddit user, Haloi, posted a picture of more than a few dozens of people gathered in Melbourne Central in Australia at 11 PM on Friday night.

Another user, Taeq, posted a picture of about 30 people gathered because of a lure in an undisclosed local park.

9 Many people have reported improvements in their mental health after playing Pokémon Go. According to many it has encouraged them to step out into the real world and experience it. 

According to two different studies published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and  Journal of Experimental Psychology walking in nature dispels negative thinking, restores the mind and its ability for critical thinking. Going out for walks now and then instead of just sitting in one attitude is also beneficial for physical health.

People who started playing Pokémon Go have begun to go out more and more. The change of scene is helping them relax as they spend time outdoors. Added to that, it’s also giving them plenty of exercise.(source)

10 Pokémon Go has helped a paralyzed 31-year-old, who only leaves house twice a year, go out more often and participate in things everyone does.

Tyler Post was paralyzed from the shoulders when he was 17 years old after a car accident. Since then he required a nurse for 24-hour care and doesn’t go out often because of the limitations due to his condition. Now, he goes out with his sister’s son to play Pokémon Go. In an interview with PEOPLE his sister said that the game had revitalized him and gave him new hope.(source)

11 People are leaving their jobs to play Pokémon Go and selling their accounts for money on ebay. The bidding for one of the high-level accounts has even reached £7,300.

On one hand there are people who are becoming physically active because of the game, and on the other there are lazy players who are willing to spend thousands of pounds to have all the Pokémon without lifting a finger. A teacher from north London, has given up her job to create multiple accounts, play the game and sell the accounts on ebay.

There are many other such auctions by players who are looking to sell their high-level accounts. Niantic, however, has closed some of these accounts citing terms of service of Niatic Labs.(source)

12 A zookeeper at Birmingham Zoo, Alabama, crafted creative signs for the cages when she got tired of people visiting the zoo to catch Pokémon rather than for the animals. 

The signs she created gave the information about the animal including height, weight and type. She also managed to make it more quirky by adding their traits as their powers along with their stardust.(source)
